Based in Devon and launched only in January 2020, My Little Eco Shop has already won me over and is my first ever feature on this site! They offer affordable, sustainable everyday products.
They stock products ranging from skin and haircare to dental products, feminine care, candles and more. As soon as I found this company I knew they would become a fast favourite, with all the self care products I need in one place, how could they not?
Firstly I bought the Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Tablets, which come in recyclable glass jar with an aluminium lid and compostable box. There are 120 tablets in the jar and they are super easy to use. You just pop one in your mouth and chew until it's dissolved and brush as normal for 2 minutes. Having never used charcoal or any natural toothpaste before, the taste was certainly something that took a little time to get used to, but I have been using this product for 3 months now and I love it. No plastic waste and no toothpaste stuck at the bottom of the tube waste either! For £8.99 these are more expensive than traditional toothpaste but at a brushing rate of 2x per day a jar lasts for 2 months, which I think is reasonable for the price.
Next I bought the Ultra Soft Bamboo 16pcs Reusable Makeup Remover Pads, which come with a cute washing bag which you put them in before putting them in the wash to keep them all together. There is 16 in a pack and they're currently on offer for £12.99. They can be re-used up to 500 times each, so in comparison to the cost of makeup wipes/cotton pads, these are not only better for the environment but end up being cheaper in the long run! To use them you just apply your makeup remover/micellar water/toner/whatever product you want to use to the pad, wipe your face and wash after use. They can be put in with the rest of your washing, so you don't need to waste water doing a whole separate wash for them. And to top it off, once you are done with them, they can be recycled along with the packaging they come in!
Finally I bought the Starter Black Charcoal Sanitary Pad Set, which came with 2 medium & 2 small pads and a washbag. With them being fabric, they are a little bulkier than disposable sanitary pads, however that is cancelled out in the additional comfort of these pads. Not to mention they are just as, if not more, absorbent than disposable ones. Just like the makeup pads, these can be put in their washbag and washed with your clothes at 30 degrees. Currently at £18.99, this was the most expensive product I purchased from My Little Eco Shop, however these are definitely going to same me money on sanitary pads in the long run while being so much better for the environment.
Overall, I am very happy with my products and the recyclable packaging they came in, I'm already looking at what switches I can make next to do my part in helping our planet! I'm thinking solid shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.
